Fixed, Variable, or Dynamic: What's the Difference?
These three terms are NOT interchangeable. With a fixed contract, you pay the same price per kWh all year, no matter when you use electricity. With a variable contract, the price is revised periodically (monthly or quarterly) based on wholesale market averages. With a dynamic contract, the price follows the day-ahead wholesale price hour by hour: it changes every hour, and can be higher or lower than a fixed rate depending on the moment.
Is a Dynamic Electricity Tariff Worth It for You?
If you mostly use electricity during the day, when the grid carries a lot of solar power, a dynamic contract can work in your favour. If you mostly use it in the evening peak hours, you'll see the opposite. Without looking at your own quarter-hourly usage data, any answer is a guess — not a calculation.
